Case Study 1 - Every Man Remembered Sculpture with The Royal British Legion and designer Mark Humphrey
Bay Plastics were approached by artist Mark Humphrey to design, manufacture, and install a 7 meter high obelisk and it’s functionality to compliment his bronze sculpture of the Centenary Soldier as part of the Royal British Legion Everyman Remembered project. The soldier stands in a field of poppies, the poppies flutter up and softly fall, paying tribute to each and everyone for their sacrifices made.
Utilising extensive plastics expertise gathered over twenty five years in business, 20mm Clear Cast Perspex® Acrylic sheet was chosen as the ideal material for the project due to its clarity, impact strength and excellent fabrication properties.
At over 7 metres high, structural integrity was required to accommodate wind loadings and adverse weather conditions, so Bay Plastics teamed up with a local steel fabricator Motech Engineering Ltd. The decision was taken, in order to enable transportation and portability, to construct the obelisk in 3 sections using stainless steel box section and angle to produce a skeleton framework onto which the Perspex panels were fixed.
