Bay Plastics specialises in a range of plastic fabrication techniques, including turning to meet the custom requirements of all of our clients.
Turning is a form of machining, or material removal, which is used to create rotational parts by cutting away unwanted material. Simple turning requires that the workpiece, a piece of rigid plastic is rotated at speed while a cutting tool is traversed along 1, 2 or 3 axes of motion to produce precise diameters and depths. Turning produces the external geometries of the cylinder whereas boring produces the internal geometries. Simple turning produces a part which is symmetrical about its centreline. Both internal and external profiles can be tapered, square, threaded, grooved, or curved, or a combination of them all. Our machining centres are able to add a myriad of extra detail such as slots and radial holes.
